YES! Anyone is welcome to submit artwork for consideration through our website.

We are pleased to invite MassArt students to submit to this year’s Auction Student Call for Art! The MassArt Auction will be accepting submissions from all MassArt students for the 2025 MassArt Auction. All Undergraduate and Graduate students will be invited to submit to the Student Call for Art beginning October 11 through November 10, 2024. Artwork jurying for student submissions will be conducted virtually this year.

Please fill out the online Student Call for Art Submission Form, indicating your student affiliation by choosing either “MassArt Undergraduate Student/Alum” or “MassArt Graduate Student” under “Please confirm your MassArt affiliation.” When prompted, please select your corresponding graduation year. If you are a graduate student who also received an undergraduate degree from MassArt, please select all options that apply and select your grad years. You can use the “MassArt Undergraduate Student/Alum” option to select your previous degree graduation year.

Please note: Continuing Education students will be invited to submit to our General Call for Art, starting September 3 through October 6, 2024.

Professional & Continuing Education students are welcome to participate in the Auction and should complete the General Call for Art Submission Form by the October 6, 2024 deadline. Please indicate your affiliation by choosing MassArt Continuing Education Student under “Please Choose Your MassArt Affiliation”.

Artists may submit up to three (3) original artworks valued at $500 or more for consideration by our jury. Please keep in mind that it can be difficult for us to accommodate large-scale pieces that exceed 36 inches in height or width or works that require intricate installations.

The MassArt Auction encourages all disciplines to apply; however, due to space limitations, large-scale pieces that exceed 36 inches in height or width or works that require intricate installations are typically hard to accommodate.

Please note that the MassArt Auction is a contemporary art auction that features original works of art. With the exception of editioned media, please keep in mind that giclee prints or reproductions of original artworks will not be accepted (ex: a giclee print of a painting). If you have specific questions, please get in touch with us at auction@massart.edu and we are happy to discuss in more detail or answer any questions you may have.

All artists are required to provide a fair estimated retail value for their artwork, including the cost of framing. The MassArt Foundation and its staff cannot value or appraise artwork. When determining the value of your work, take your past retail history (if applicable), your cost of framing and materials, and your perceived value into consideration to estimate a fair retail value of your work.

Yes. Please visit the MassArt Auction page on Bidsquare or last year’s digital catalog to see artwork featured in the 2024 MassArt Auction.

As in recent years, we are planning to host the 2025 MassArt Auction in a hybrid format, inclusive of both virtual and in-person components.

A Live Auction is a high-energy event where an auctioneer presents auction items and manages the bidding process. Typically, our Live Auction contains between 25 – 35 pieces that tend to be some of our most highly-valued items. The Live Auction is usually about a one-and-a-half-hour program that takes place on the night of the MassArt Auction event, with bidding placed through the auctioneer and occurring in real-time.

A Silent Auction has a longer bidding period of up to three weeks, where participants place bids on auction items independently and on their own time. Typically, our Silent Auction has three sections, each containing ~100 pieces, available for bidding through our online Auction platform.

The popular “Buy Now” option will be available for all Silent Auction lots during the timed online Silent Auction on Bidsquare through Friday, March 28 at 12:00 Noon via massartauction.org/bid. Any Silent Auction lot may be purchased outright by paying 150% of the stated fair estimated value at any time during the bidding period using this feature.

All submissions go before our committee of art professionals and contemporary art collectors for consideration during an extensive jury process.

All artists will be notified as to whether or not their artwork was accepted via email by December 20, 2024. Please do not contact MassArt directly.

The MassArt Auction is the College’s largest fundraising event benefiting student scholarships and academic programs. We encourage everyone to consider giving 100% of their proceeds to MassArt so that we can continue to provide an excellent education to our deserving students.

All artists who donate 100% of the sale of their work will receive complimentary framing services as well as special recognition at the Auction. For those that wish to receive a percentage of their artwork sale back, we offer the option to receive 50% of the sale proceeds.

Historically, participating artists have received access to tickets for the MassArt Auction and Opening Reception. We hope to continue this tradition this year and plan to share the specific details surrounding artist ticket distribution closer to the event.

Yes. Except for 3D pieces and works on canvas, all accepted works must be framed and ready for hanging in time for artwork drop-off prior to the Auction artwork installation process. Please note that the cost of the frame should be included in the estimated value of your piece. Participating artists will be contacted via email with artwork drop-off and shipping details.

Thanks to the generosity of our in-kind framing donors, MassArt will frame works by artists who have elected to contribute 100% of the sale of their artwork to the College for FREE. If your work does not sell at Auction, you may be responsible for the cost of the framing. MassArt cannot guarantee that large artworks or special framing instructions can be accommodated. Frames for your pieces will be decided at the discretion of MassArt.

For those who have elected to receive a percentage of their sale back and are in need of framing, we recommend contacting Amanda Accardi ’06 at Around the Corner Framing for discounted framing services.

Following decision notices, participating artists will be notified about artwork drop-off and shipping information after the winter holiday season. Please note that all artwork should arrive in ready-to-hang condition with secure, protective wrapping or packaging.* Accepted artwork should be hand-delivered in person or via a professional shipping company. Drop-off/delivery location and the due date for artwork will be shared with all accepted artists in January.

* Shipment of Auction artwork must be done at the expense and liability of the participating artist. MassArt will not pay for artwork to be shipped and has limited ability to store shipping materials.

The MassArt Foundation will use images of Auction artwork to promote the event and the sale of artwork. All artists participating in the MassArt Auction agree to grant the Massachusetts College of Art and Design and the MassArt Foundation perpetual, royalty-free, nonexclusive license to use, without limitation, any Auction artwork, project, or related image for the purposes of promoting the College and related events.

All artists will be notified of the sale of their artwork by June 1, 2024.  If, in the unfortunate case, your artwork does not sell, please contact us to make arrangements to pick up your artwork from MassArt after June 2, 2025. Any artwork that remains unclaimed by June 30, 2025, will become the property of the MassArt Foundation and may be sold at a later time without consignment to the donating artist/entity. Artists are responsible for collecting or paying for the return shipment of unsold artwork.
