Our studios, workshops, and labs give students across disciplines and programs access to the very latest equipment, tools, and technology. Working alongside our renowned faculty, they find themselves in spaces where they are free to push boundaries – and push themselves.
MassArt’s schoolwide facilities provide students with access to specialized spaces designed to support every stage of the creative process—from experimentation and installation to documentation and presentation. These shared resources allow artists across disciplines to explore materials, refine their craft, and professionally capture their work.
The Lab (aka Print Lab) serves as an interdisciplinary resource to the MassArt community, including output, printing, and scanning services, computer labs and instructional technology spaces, and academic technology training.

MassArt’s Woodshop is a state-of-the-art facility where students bring their designs to life through hands-on making. Equipped with professional-grade tools and machinery, the Woodshop supports projects ranging from sculpture and furniture to model-making and installation work.
Access is available to students enrolled in relevant coursework or those who have completed a group training session or designated gateway course.

The Sound Studio is a soundproof, professionally outfitted space for recording, composition, and editing. Students use the studio to produce sound for film, animation, and installation projects, as well as for independent audio work and scoring. The space offers instruction and technical support in sound design and production techniques.
Available to all MassArt students by reservation.

Designed for experimentation and documentation, our Black Box and Lighting Installation Rooms offer flexible, minimally furnished spaces ideal for light-based installations, performance projects, and photographic work.
With 12-foot ceilings, full hanging grids, and black-painted walls and ceilings, these rooms provide a neutral, adaptable environment for immersive creative exploration.

The Documentation Room is equipped for professional-quality photography of student artwork. This dedicated space includes LED lighting, adjustable stands, and a range of large paper backdrops in multiple colors—allowing students to capture their work in its best light.

The Resilient Pigment Library is a growing collection of inks, pigments, paints, dyes, and color materials that encourages artists and designers to think differently about where color comes from—and the impact it has on people, communities, and ecosystems.

MassArt’s Fab Labs are spaces where innovation meets craft. These labs bring digital fabrication to life, offering tools and technologies that bridge design, engineering, and fine art. Whether prototyping a product or experimenting with materials, students across disciplines use these facilities to transform ideas into tangible works.
Flooded with natural light and creative energy, the UpLab is one of MassArt’s key fabrication spaces. It’s equipped with 3D printers and a wire bender, enabling students to explore digital modeling, sculptural forms, and product design.
Students can access the lab after attending a workshop or completing in-class training—appointments are required.

The PC Lab supports the digital side of creative work at MassArt. Open to students, faculty, and staff, it provides access to industry-standard creative software and hardware, including 3D modeling programs and Wacom tablets. No appointment is needed—just bring your project and start creating.
