Digital Fabrication Labs

UpLab

The UPLAB provides 3D printing and wire bending, and is open to all students who attend workshops or are trained in a class. Please note, appointments must be booked in advance. View a virtual tour of the UpLab.

PCLab

The PCLAB is available to MassArt students, faculty, and staff. It’s where to go for all of the creative software available through MassArt, including 3d modeling software. No appointment is necessary to use the PCLAB.

BaseLab

The BASELAB’s laser cutter and water jet cutter are available to all MassArt students and staff by appointment.

Community-wide Studios and Spaces

Woodshop

This state-of-the-art facility is available to students enrolled in relevant coursework or those who have completed a group training session or certain gateway courses. Call (617) 879-7919 or email Ellen Adams at eiadams@massart.edu or Ken Hartl at khartl@massart.edu for more information.

A sound proof recording room with computers and sound boards.

Sound studio

The Sound Studio provides instruction on sound recording, composition, and editing, and supports work on scoring or audio projects. The studio is available to all students. Please email Eric Freeman at efreeman@massart.edu to make a reservation.

A dimly lit studio with black walls and ceiling features a wooden ladder, a colorful abstract painting on the back wall, and a black chair. Overhead, pipes and lights are visible. The space has a minimalist, industrial feel, making efficient use of resources for an artistic atmosphere.

Black Box & Installation Rooms

Our Lighting Installation Rooms are minimally furnished, painted entirely black, and have 12 foot ceilings that support full hanging grids. They can also be used for documentation. Email kyle.brock@massart.edu with questions or to schedule an appointment.

Documentation Room

The Documentation Room is a space for students to photograph artwork. It includes access to large paper backdrops in a variety of colors as well as LED lights on stands. Email Kyle Brock at kyle.brock@massart.edu with questions or to schedule an appointment.

The Lab

The Lab serves as an interdisciplinary resource to the MassArt community, including output, printing, and scanning services, computer labs and instructional technology spaces, and academic technology training.
