Winter Workshops
MassArt Winter Workshops offer high school students hands-on studio experiences in drawing, design, and mixed media.
On-campus and online workshops offer students in grades 9-12 the opportunity to expand their technical skillset. These workshops are great for students looking to build their portfolio, or try something new!
Winter 2026 Schedule
Session 1: January 17 & 18, 2026 (Saturday & Sunday)

Session 1 (January 17 – 18, 2026)
Fashion Illustration
Start Date: January 17, 2026
End Date: January 18, 2026
Meeting Day: Saturday & Sunday
Time: 10:00am – 3:00pm each day
In this two day workshop, you will learn the principles of fashion illustration. These include figure proportions, drawing and coloring techniques. You will explore different drawing materials, how to draw different fabrics and develop your illustration style.

Illustration

Students are introduced to the major markets of illustration with a focus on narrative and advertising using a combination and variety of traditional mediums and experimental techniques.

Illustration (Online)
Start Date: January 17, 2026

Meeting Day: Saturday & Sunday
Time: 10:00am – 3:00pm each day
Explore the multi-faceted field of illustration. In this class, students learn about effective tools and techniques for visual communication. Areas of study may include concept art, character design, editorial, and narrative illustration. Students are exposed to the wide range of styles and mediums used by professional illustrators.

Mixed Media
Start Date: January 17, 2026

This two day workshop will explore the many ways artists combine media to communicate ideas and images. Looking at contemporary artists will inspire students to experiment with found objects, drawing, painting, and collage.
Cost: $210
Printmaking
Start Date: January 17, 2026
End Date: January 18, 2026
Meeting Day: Saturday & Sunday
Time: 10:00am – 3:00pm each day
Experiment with a variety of printmaking techniques as you explore monotypes. You will be introduced to processes you can recreate at home, while also learning to use MassArt’s printmaking equipment.
Cost: $210
Supplies for all programs are not included in the program fee and are purchased by the participant. A supply list will be emailed to participants two weeks before the start of the program. Assistance with supplies is available.
Session 2 (February 18 – 19, 2025):

Observational Drawing (Online)

In this two day drawing workshop, students will strengthen their observational drawing skills and their personal artistic vision. Composition, line, balance, pattern, space and movement are all elements that will be explored through exercises and personal imagery.

Printmaking

Session 1 payment is due in full by December 17, 2025.
Session 2 payment is due in full by January 21, 2026.
Registrations are accepted on a first-come, first-served and space available basis. Submission of a registration form does not guarantee enrollment in a class. If you submit a registration form and your preferred classes are full, you will be placed on the waiting list and notified as soon as possible if a space becomes available.
Scholarships are based on financial need and are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Please indicate on your registration form if you would like to request a scholarship. To be considered, you will be asked to provide family financial information on the registration form (required).
MassArt reserves the right to cancel classes in the event of an insufficient number of registrations. Students will receive a full refund in the event that a class is canceled for this reason. Classes with low enrollment will be canceled at least two weeks before the start of the program.
Students will receive a full refund if the class is dropped by the dates listed below for each section.

Students who fail to notify MassArt Youth Programs of their registration cancellation in writing to k12@massart.edu prior to the specified dates will not be eligible for a refund.
Failure to pay the class fee by the payment deadline does not withdraw a student from the program. Students who do not pay the class fee, and who do not attend the class will still be charged. Students who drop their class after the deadline will be responsible for paying the class fee.
