Winter Workshops
Two day studio workshops for students in grades 9-12.
On-campus and online workshops offer high school students the opportunity to expand their technical skillset. These workshops are great for students looking to build their portfolio, or try something new!

WINTER 2024 SESSIONS (ONLINE AND IN PERSON OPTIONS AVAILABLE)
Session 1: January 13 & 14, 2024
(Saturday & Sunday)
Session 2: February 20 & 21, 2024
(Tuesday & Wednesday during Boston Public Schools February Vacation)
Classes run from 10:00am – 3:00pm each day

Classes are offered in the format indicated next to their title.
WINTER 2024 SESSION 1 & 2
Session 1 (January 13 – 14, 2024):
Artist Sketchbooks (on campus)
A sketchbook is an artist’s most important tool. It is a space to experiment, document, and explore your ideas. In this two day workshop, you will learn traditional bookbinding techniques while you craft a personalized sketchbook. Express your artistic vision by choosing your paper and designing your own cover, end pages, and spine.
Fashion Illustration (on campus)
Looking for a way to get into Fashion, or advance your clothing illustration skills? In this two day workshop, you will learn the principles of fashion illustration. These include figure proportions, drawing and coloring techniques. You will explore different drawing materials, how to draw different fabrics and develop your illustration style.
Mixed Media Illustration (on campus)
Students will be introduced to the major markets of illustration with a focus on narrative and advertising using a combination and variety of traditional mediums and experimental techniques.
Monotypes (on campus)
Experiment with a variety of printmaking techniques as you explore monotypes in this two day workshop. You will be introduced to processes you can recreate at home, while also learning to use MassArt’s printmaking equipment.
Observational Drawing and Visual Thinking (virtual and on campus available)
In this two day drawing workshop, students will strengthen their observational drawing skills and their personal artistic vision. Composition, line, balance, pattern, space and movement are all elements that will be explored through exercises and personal imagery.
Session 2 (February 20 – 21, 2024):

PROGRAM INFORMATION AND COST
Winter 2024 Program Fee: $200
Materials and supplies are not included in the program fee and are purchased by the participant. Assistance with supplies is available.
Session 1 payment is due in full by December 18, 2023.
Session 2 payment is due in full by January 22, 2024.
DROPPING & REFUND POLICY
Students will receive a full refund if they cancel their registration by:
Session 1: December 18, 2023
Session 2: January 22, 2024
Students who fail to notify MassArt Youth Programs of their registration cancellation in writing to k12@massart.edu prior to the specified dates will not be eligible for a refund.
