The FAFSA
Learn about the steps and deadlines involved in filing your FAFSA.
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid, known as the FAFSA, is the only application we require you to complete in order to be considered for financial aid at MassArt. If you’re considering MassArt, file your FAFSA at the same time you apply for admission.
Step 1
Get your FSA ID
Before you start the FAFSA, apply for a Federal Student Aid (FSA) ID number. Your FSA ID will serve as your legal signature on all Federal Student Aid websites.
Step 2
File the FAFSA
- The FAFSA will be available by December 1. MassArt’s priority deadline to file the FAFSA is March 1, but some aid is provided on a first-come, first-served basis, so the sooner you file, the better.
- MassArt’s federal school code is 002180. Please include this code on your application.
- Make sure your social security number is on file with the Admissions Office so we can retrieve your FAFSA.
Step 3
Review Your FAFSA Submission Summary
- Once your FAFSA is processed (this usually takes 3-5 days) you’ll receive a copy of your FAFSA Submission Summary (FSS).
- Review this summary to ensure that the information you submitted is accurate and complete. If you need to make changes or corrections, you can do so on the FAFSA website.
- MassArt will receive an electronic copy of your FSS, along with any corrections that you make, so long as MassArt’s school code (002180) has been included on your FAFSA.
Step 4
Provide Other Documentation as Needed
- Filers selected for verification must submit additional documents as part of the FAFSA review process.
- You will be notified by email and in Financial Aid Self Service if you need to submit additional information.
- The best way to submit documents is to upload them in Financial Aid Self Service.
Review our Self Service instructions for more information on using Self Service to access financial awards.
Please Note: If you are selected for Verification, you will receive an estimated financial aid package until you submit any requested information to Student Financial Assistance.
