When MassArt alumna, Alaina Mahoney, , BFA ’11 Painting, was a student, she joined the on-campus group, Iron Corp, where she learned how to combine the art of painting and the craft of metalwork.  As owner of her own blacksmith shop,  A.M. Design & Fabrication, she helps other artists design and fabricate their projects — most recently, Destiny Palmer’s sculpture, “I AM Codman Sq.”

Mahoney shared that she loves metalwork because it’s like painting:  “There’s all these different ways of painting. In blacksmithing, there’s all these different ways of mark-making.”
