Discover the exciting world of artmaking! Now in its 94th year, MassArt’s Saturday Studios offers students in grades 3–12 a fun and supportive space to explore their artistic passions. From painting and drawing to printmaking, ceramics, photography, and more, our diverse range of classes sparks creativity and inspires young artists of all skill levels—whether picking up a paintbrush for the first time or refining your craft.
Led by Art Education Student Teachers under the guidance of expert faculty, Saturday Studios is not just about learning art but also about building connections and discovering new possibilities. No prerequisites, no portfolio reviews—just bring your imagination and a passion for art!

Classes are held weekly on Saturdays
9:30am – 11:45am (Grades 3 – 5)
9:30am – 12:00pm (Grades 6 – 12)

Explore ways of making art using a wide variety of media and materials that may include drawing, painting, printmaking, clay, and more. This class provides ample room for play while also introducing young artists to different and exciting approaches to artmaking.

This studio class focuses on the art of sequential storytelling. Learn how to translate sketches into clear, dynamic and entertaining comics. Focus is placed on story structure and style. Find your voice in the ever-changing world of comic art.

Time: Classes are held weekly from 9:30 AM – 12:00 PM
Through drawing, painting, collage, fibers, and more, students learn to observe and explore the world around them. They will investigate new styles of making and learn more about themselves as artists. Students will be exposed to work by contemporary artists working in a variety of media.

Students learn the fundamentals of figure drawing while exploring principles of value, contrast, line, texture, and shape. This course will look at traditional and contemporary works and techniques to help inform their work. All models will be clothed.

This class teaches the practical elements of digital photography. Alongside the technical use of a digital camera and computer editing software, students will explore the power of the photographic image through individual and group projects. This class is open to all skill levels.

This class explores a variety of printmaking techniques including monotypes, collagraphs, relief and intaglio printing. Students will gain familiarity with basic printmaking mediums & equipment. Printmaking provides a unique lens that will expand the way students view and create art.

In this studio class, students will learn a variety of hand-building, sculptural, and wheel-working processes. Students will also be introduced to surface techniques and image design on clay. Contemporary artists that use clay will be studied throughout the class. This class is open to students of all skill levels.

Program Information
2025 Program Fee: $200
Payment is due in full by February 21, 2025.

Registrations are accepted on a first-come, first-served and space available basis. Submission of a registration form does not guarantee enrollment in a class. If you submit a registration form and your preferred classes are full, you will be placed on the waiting list and notified as soon as possible if a space becomes available.
Scholarships are based on financial need and are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Please indicate on your registration form if you would like to request a scholarship. To be considered, you will be asked to provide family financial information on the registration form (required).
MassArt reserves the right to cancel classes in the event of an insufficient number of registrations. Students will receive a full refund in the event that a class is canceled for this reason. Classes with low enrollment will be canceled at least two weeks before the start of the program.
Students will receive a full refund if the class is dropped by October 1st. Students who fail to notify MassArt Youth Programs of their registration cancellation in writing to k12@massart.edu prior to this date, will not be eligible for a refund.
