Susette Brooks Visiting Lecturer, Humanities

Susette Brooks is an award-winning writer, educator, communications strategist, and Army captain. She earned an MFA in Nonfiction from Goucher College, where she began a memoir-in-essays that examines how defense mechanisms passed through generations of her family continue to impact her life.

When Susette isn’t writing, she supports the work of other storytellers. She is the Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Strategy for Penguin Publishing Group, a division of Penguin Random House. Susette is a captain in the Army National Guard where she leads a team of soldier-journalists who use multimedia narrative to tell soldiers’ stories.

Teaching is at the heart of Susette’s many professional interests. She’s recently taught writers at Rosemont College, Rutgers University, Philadelphia Stories, and the American Society of Authors and Journalists. Now, as a Visiting Lecturer at MassArt, she will teach Thinking Making Writing, a privileged opportunity to help students believe that their stories have inherent value and are needed in the world, now more than ever.

At MassArt, Susette Brooks teaches Thinking Making Writing.
