Master of Arts in Teaching 4+1

MassArt BFA students not majoring in Art Education interested in the visual arts licensure may apply to an expedited Master’s program after taking required courses.

MassArt BFA students who are not majors in Art Education may apply for the BFA/MAT in the Fall term of their senior year after completing three required undergraduate courses in Art Education – AETE 201: Art and Human Development; AETE 300: Seminar III: Issue and the Individual Learner; and AETE 307: Saturday Studios: Pre-Practicum I.

Accepted candidates begin their 30-credit MA program in the Summer that immediately follows their BFA graduation. The BFA/MAT qualifies candidates to apply for the Massachusetts initial teaching license. After three years of teaching with the initial teaching license, graduates may apply for a Massachusetts professional teaching license without further coursework.

International applicants, please contact Graduate Programs for program eligibility information.
