At Massachusetts College of Art and Design (MassArt), we believe that creativity thrives when students feel supported, nourished, and ready to take on the world. Yet, for many, an all-too-common worry clouds their focus: Where will my next meal come from?

To address this pressing challenge and give our students the peace of mind they deserve, we took action. In 2017, we established The Shelf — a resource providing free essentials like non-perishable food and toiletries. Over the years, The Shelf has grown to meet the needs of our community, evolving through student input to break the stigma around food insecurity while offering confidentiality. Fueled by the generosity of individual donors, grants, and The MassArt Foundation, The Shelf is a shining example of what community care can achieve.

Now, you can join us in making a difference. On December 15, 2024 at 3pm, we’re hosting a special concert fundraiser for The Shelf. Internationally renowned pianist and MassArt Visiting Lecturer Paul-André Bempéchat will celebrate Ludwig van Beethoven’s birthday with a stirring performance of the composer’s most cherished piano sonatas. This event will be live-streamed.

Event Details

  • Where: First Parish Church, 75 The Great Road, Bedford, MA
  • When: December 15, 2024 at 3pm (in-person and live-streamed)
  • Tickets: Suggested donation of $20 (Adults) and $15 (Seniors/Students)
  • All MassArt students gain free admission to the concert upon presentation of their current College ID cards.
  • Live-Stream Access: Email music@uubedford.org

All net proceeds will support both First Parish and The Shelf, helping ensure food insecurity is never a barrier to student success.

This is more than a concert; it’s a chance to transform lives. Can’t attend? You can still support The Shelf by making a direct donation at massart.edu/give.

Food insecurity should not be a barrier to student success. Together, we can ensure that every MassArt student has the fuel they need to create, thrive, and succeed.
