The Shelf is funded directly through grants such as The American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA), The MassArt Foundation, as well as the MassArt Community as a whole. Through direct student input, The Shelf has taken strides to break the stigma around food insecurity, while still providing anonymity.

Food insecurity is an increasingly common challenge with which many people, including our students, are struggling. Over the years, The Shelf has increased its reach by:

  • Expanding food options
  • Moving to a larger, more accessible space inside the Commuter Cafe
  • Providing free menstrual products through a partnership with Dignity Matters
