Creativity, connection, and commerce thrived at last month’s MassArt Night Market, where more than 55 MassArt students and alumni makers came together to share their original work with shoppers in Boston’s bustling Downtown Crossing. Presented in partnership with the Downtown Boston Alliance (DBA), the free outdoor event transformed Summer and Washington Streets into a lively marketplace celebrating the city’s creative economy and the artists shaping it.
Offering everything from hand-printed ceramics, apparel, and jewelry to illustrations, zines, and one-of-a-kind home goods, shoppers supported local creators while enjoying live art, hands-on demos, and a curated soundtrack from MassArt Studio for Interrelated Media (SIM) student DJs. Visitors even joined in the creative process through screen printing, paper embroidery, notebook binding, and even non-permanent airbrush tattoos—immersing themselves in the spirit of the MassArt community.

The MassArt Night Market underscores the College’s deepening investment in creative entrepreneurship, which includes the recent launch of a 15-credit Business of Creative Industries minor, designed to equip artists and designers with the skills to succeed in the creative economy. Led by Sara Hartmann, Program Director of Creative Entrepreneurship, the program draws on the expertise of MassArt faculty, industry leaders, and more than 50 visiting entrepreneurs each year. “I’m excited that this new partnership with DBA gives us a chance to shine a spotlight on our talented community of creative entrepreneurs at MassArt,” said Hartmann.
From the classroom to the marketplace, learn more about how MassArt’s Business of Creative Industries minor can empower your creative practice with essential business acumen to navigate the market, launch new ventures, and build a sustainable and impactful career.
