Max Grinnell’s work focuses on narrating the urban condition through his three published books, articles, and long form essays aimed primarily at a general audience. His essays on American cities have appeared in the Chicago Tribune, the Boston Globe, The Guardian, Boston Magazine, the Chicago Reader, and Travel + Leisure. His favorite book is Treasure Island.

Max remembers the adventure of his first years of college—the wonder of discovering new places. He also remembers the need to have quiet spaces for reading, which can be a challenge for students living in dorms and for students who commute. For the last few years, Max has been building a list of interesting, quiet spaces across the Colleges of Fenway where students may read. He shares his findings with MassArt students to encourage their growth through learning at MassArt.

In the Humanities Department at MassArt, Max Grinnell teaches Thinking Making Writing.
