Research Interests
High performance envelopes including low embodined carbon alternatives, biophiilic desoign to support health and wellness, evidence-based healthcare design, and K-12 learning environments.
Using building science software tools for the profession, Keith is working with these tools and information data sets to support lectures and materials for our graduate studios in developing new standards for high performance building design. This is being developed as a teaching method and resource for our students that addresses not only performance, but also studio projects in underserved communities supporting social equity and diversity. He is developing these materials for use in the studio environment.
Keith is also interested in alternative technologies that could be implemented using materials such as mass timber, and even soil – recently in the May 2024 issue of The Architect’s Newspaper, “Raw Earth Revolution” popular in Europe where sustainable multifamily housing is being constructed with finish and infill materials using raw earth technology. Keith’s interests in the studio include multifamily mixed use housing and schools though his practice ranges across a broad group of projects of all scales.
At MassArt Keith has supported vertical studios in housing, mixed use and elementary schools, Community Build, our central design build summer studio, as well as courses covering integrated systems, building operating systems, undergraduate and graduate studios, sustainable architecture, and professional practice.
Keith has multiple skills in design and fabrication as well as detailing building systems. Presently at MassArt as a Visiting Assistant Professor for many years, he has also taught at Yestermorrow Design/Build School in Warren, VT; and lectured at the BAC in Boston, MA; Norwich University in Northfield, VT; MIT in Cambridge, MA; North Carolina State University in Raleigh, NC; and Lehigh University in Bethleham, PA.
