Jussi Silliman Visiting Lecturer, Architecture

Jussi is a designer/builder, farmer, and artist based in Massachusetts. He received his BA from Tufts University in Philosophy, Architectural Studies, and Studio Art. During this time, he participated in the Semester in Sustainable Design/Build at Yestermorrow and studied as a visiting student in sculpture at California College of the Arts.

After graduating, he worked as a designer at Maryann Thompson Architects before going back to pursue his M.Arch at Massachusetts College of Art and Design. He teaches Methods and Materials (a required shop course for architecture students) at Massachusetts College of Art and Design, and design/build certificate programs at Yestermorrow Design/Build School.

He is also the founder of Farm to Form, a design/build firm, manages a 10-acre vegetable farm, and makes art out of wood, metal, clay, glass, and other architectural materials. In everything he does, he is interested in materiality, craft, and ethical supply-chains.

He considers his life work as one of integration; integrating theory with practice, design with craft, global with local, past with future, built with grown, and one community with another.
