Hazel has worked on projects of many scales – ranging from aging-in-place residential renovations as a sole practitioner, to 1,500 student public schools as a member of a large design team. She is currently a Project Architect at HMFH Architects where she focuses on K-12 educational design with an interest in accessibility and universal design. With HMFH Architects, Hazel worked on the Annie E. Fales School, the first publicly funded net-positive energy school in Massachusetts and winner of the Green Building of the Year award from BE+, as well as Maria Chapman Middle School in Weymouth Mass, a LEED gold building and winner of Learning by Design’s Grade Prize Award.
At MassArt Hazel teaches Architectural Structures I, evolving the course over 4 semesters from an online lecture during covid, to a hands-on interactive course with group work and a “Make It and Break It” lab. She is also teaching Drawing Boston, an introductory observation and creative thinking course for new majors. Hazel also participates in the Master of Architecture Thesis course.
Hazel’s unique abilities in math, structures and solar design remain a passion in all of her work.
