Aqueela Culbreath-Britt (she/they) is a writer, social worker and educator whose overlapping passions center on the uplifting of underrepresented voices. Aqueela describes herself as an “everyday life” kind of writer who is committed to writing stories where black & queer joy sit at the center of everything.

Aqueela holds both an MFA in Creative Writing from Lesley University and a Master of Social Work from Simmons University, where she currently serves as the Director of Practicum Education for the Bachelor of Social Work Program (on-ground platform).

In 2023, Aqueela’s short story, A Manifesto of Hope, made the longlist for the Solstice literary magazine annual literary contest. Additionally, Aqueela serves as a 2022 Lambda Literary Fellow for Emerging Writers. An excerpt from Aqueela’s young adult novel-in-progress, Everything Falls Apart in the End, can be found in the Lambda Literary 2022 Emerge Anthology. Aqueela (A.C. Britt) is also the author of London Reign (2007).

Aqueela loves giraffes, domestic rabbits, lesbian romance novels, Hallmark, and anything that breaks barriers among the underrepresented. Aqueela sits on the Board of Trustees for the Charles River School in Dover, MA and is a member-at-Large for the Cambridge Common Writers Board of Directors, an independent alumni organization for the Lesley University MFA program. Aqueela resides in Boston, Massachusetts with her son and mini lop rabbit, Mocha.

In the MassArt Humanities program, Aqueela teaches Creative Writing: Multigenre.
