The Registrar’s Office will create your first-semester schedule based on program requirements, course availability, and any approved accommodations. Your finalized schedule will be shared before the start of the semester.

• Health Insurance: Students must either enroll in the MassArt Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) or waive coverage by providing proof of comparable insurance through the Gallagher Student Health Portal.
• Immunization Records: Submit your physician-signed immunization records via CastleBranch, our secure vaccination tracking portal.

Your MassArt email address will be activated one week after your deposits are received. This email will be the primary way we communicate with you, so please check it regularly for updates from MassArt offices.

Once your email is activated, you’ll also gain access to MassArt Connect, our intranet for campus news, student groups, college resources, and more. It’s your hub for staying informed and getting involved in the MassArt community.

If you are an international student admitted to MassArt, there are a few additional steps to complete before your arrival:

Apply for an F-1 Visa

Once you are formally admitted, you will need to apply for F-1 student visa status to study in the United States. Our Admissions and International Programs teams will guide you through the process and provide the necessary documentation, including your I-20 form. It’s important to begin this process as soon as possible to avoid delays.

Monitor Your Email Inboxes

Your MassArt email will be activated one week after your deposits are received. Until you arrive on campus, we will communicate with you through both your personal email and your MassArt email, but we strongly encourage you to check your MassArt email regularly for updates. Connect with the International Education Center (IEC)

The International Education Center (IEC) is a vital resource for international students at MassArt. The IEC supports global exchange and intercultural connections by providing resources and opportunities to help you succeed in a diverse world. The Center offers guidance as you navigate visa requirements, adjust to campus life, and build a path toward global competency. Through the IEC, you’ll engage in experiences that deepen your understanding of others while fostering your own creative journey.

If you’re a high school senior, your admission is contingent on completing high school requirements and graduating on schedule. Have your high school forward your final transcript to the Office of Admissions by June 30, 2025

If you have taken any Advanced Placement (AP) tests, please submit official scores to the Admissions Office as soon as possible. AP courses in which a student earned a score of a 3, 4, or 5, transfer to MassArt as studio electives, liberal arts electives, or History of Art electives. The only AP course equivalent to a specific, required MassArt course is AP Art History which is equivalent to HART-100 Intro to Western Art; an exam score of 4 or 5 is required to receive credit for this course.

International Baccalaureate (IB) scores of a 6 or 7 at the higher level are eligible for transfer elective credit. Please submit official scores to the Admissions Office as soon as possible.

• Preliminary Evaluation: A preliminary transfer credit evaluation was included with your decision letter.
• Submit Updated Transcripts: If you are currently enrolled in classes, please submit your final semester grades, course descriptions, and any updated artwork (if you are seeking studio credits) to the Office of Admissions.
• Credit Review: Once we receive these documents, MassArt will review and evaluate any new coursework and send you an updated credit evaluation within 3–4 weeks.
• Credit Application: Additional transfer credits may be awarded for liberal arts, history of art, or studio electives. However, it is important to note that additional credits are unlikely to change your entrance level.

Providing these materials promptly ensures that your transfer evaluation is finalized and that any applicable credits are applied to your academic record before you begin your journey at MassArt.

First Term Fall schedules are usually completed by the beginning of July. First Term Spring schedules should be complete by mid-December. Once a new schedule has been built and viewable in Self Service, you will receive a notification email at your MassArt email address.

You may find that you have been registered for a course that completes a degree requirement but seems like it wouldn’t be of interest to you. While students do have the opportunity to adjust their schedules during Add/Drop (first two weeks of the semester) it isn’t always possible.

Alumnus and Department Chair of Studio Foundations, Marc Holland, experienced this exact scenario as a new MassArt student. He had been placed in a wood-working studio elective that he was not excited about, but, amazingly, it ended up being his passion and eventual major! So be prepared to discover your hidden talents.

With hundreds of schedules in play, we are unfortunately unable to personalize every schedule. If you have extenuating circumstances like a long commute (over 1 hour), an inflexible work schedule, childcare needs, fixed medical appointments, etc., please email us directly at mturley@massart.edu.

The Registrar’s Office will attempt to accommodate extenuating circumstances. Undergraduate students who have documented accommodations should first reach out to the Academic Resource Center (ARC) and any related scheduling needs will be relayed to our office.

Yes! The Registrar’s Office only creates schedules for incoming students. Midway through your first term, you will meet with an assigned faculty advisor, learn how to plan out courses and register yourself for future terms.

Please reach out to mturley@massart.edu in the Office of the Registrar with any questions about college level credits earned during high school, at another accredited institution, or through CLEP (College Level Examination Program). Once official transcripts pertaining to potential transfer credits are reviewed, you will be notified as to whether any of these credits will be awarded towards your MassArt degree requirements and if schedule adjustments may be made.
