Hazing
Massachusetts College of Art and Design is committed to maintaining a safe and inclusive campus community where all students, faculty, and staff are treated with dignity and respect.
This policy is enacted in compliance with the laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and federal law, including but not limited to the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act). Hazing is in direct conflict with the values of the College and is explicitly prohibited.
Prevention and Education
MassArt provides hazing prevention to all students. All club leaders and representatives must take a learning module regarding hazing prevention every year. In addition, at the beginning of each semester students receive an email that links them to the College policy regarding hazing. Finally, the College offers information about hazing prevention at events such as the Student Involvement Fair and Fresh Check Day. The hazing policy can be found in the Student Handbook.
Campus Statistics
Pursuant to the Stop Campus Hazing Act, colleges and universities must prepare a Campus Hazing Transparency Report identifying all student organizations found responsible for hazing through institutional conduct processes. The report for Massachusetts College of Art and Design appears below. It is updated at least twice-yearly typically in December and July.
The information provided includes the name of the student organization; the known dates of the hazing behavior; the date the incident was reported to the University; the dates of the investigation and the finding of responsibility; and a summary of the outcome. Beginning in Spring 2025, and in accordance with Section 485(f) of the Higher Education Act of 1965 (20 U.S.C. 1092(f)), the report will also indicate whether the hazing incident involved the misuse or illegal use of alcohol or drugs, and the date(s) on which the University notified the organization that the incident constituted a hazing violation.
