Boston Sports & Recreation
If you’re a lover of all things sports, then Boston’s the city for you.
Home to several celebrated major league teams, Boston draws sports enthusiasts from all over the state and around the country. In Boston, sports play a major role in the culture and are a huge source of pride for many of the city’s residents. Baseball fans and history buffs alike can visit Fenway Park to catch a Red Sox game or enjoy a tour of Major League Baseball’s oldest active ballpark. What’s more, TD Garden — New England’s largest sports and entertainment arena — is home to Boston’s famed hockey and basketball teams, the Bruins and the Celtics. And if you’re passionate about football or soccer, you can catch a ride on the commuter rail to Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, which hosts the legendary New England Patriots and the New England Revolution.
Public and College-Level Sporting Events
In addition to the major leagues, there are many collegiate teams to root for as well as sporting events that are free and open to the public. Every October, for instance, you can snag a spot along the Charles River and cheer on rowers as they compete in the Head of the Charles Regatta. The two-day regatta is North America’s largest rowing competition and attracts tens of thousands of spectators every year.
You can also watch sporting events at some of MassArt’s fellow Colleges of the Fenway (COF), along with many of the other colleges and universities in Greater Boston. And if you’d like to cheer on your fellow Mastodons, watch them compete in one of the COF intramural sports events.
