Standardized Test Policy

Standardized Tests

As part of a pilot program, Massachusetts College of Art and Design will no longer require standardized test scores (SAT/ACT) as part of our admission requirements.

Eliminating standardized tests from our admission requirements allows MassArt to attract more art and design students who are both academically and artistically qualified based on a holistic review of their application. We will focus our admission decisions on a student's academic work and grade point average, along with all other required materials (portfolio, essay, recommendations), which research has shown are better predictors of academic success.

Guidelines

  • If an applicant submits test scores, we will not factor these test scores into the admission decision, but will reserve the right to use these scores in institutional profile reports if the student is admitted and decides to enroll at MassArt
  • Test scores will not be used for merit scholarship consideration
english language proficiency

Students whose native language is not English are required to demonstrate English language proficiency by submitting TOEFL, IELTS, DuoLingo, or the Pearson Test of English scores as part of the application process. Learn more
