How can illustration help us see a historic story in new ways? Through the Center for Art and Community Partnerships, MassArt students collaborated with the Du Bois Freedom Center on a community-engaged project exploring the life and legacy of Elizabeth Freeman. Their artwork is now featured in a permanent interactive kiosk in Great Barrington.

Join MassArt Graduate Programs at MassArt x SoWa for October First Friday, when galleries across Boston’s SoWa district open their doors for an evening of art, exhibitions, and community.
Celebrate the closing of They Say: 2026 Graduate Alumni Exhibition, with the artists and the MassArt community on Friday, October 2 from 5-8pm.
Join us for a screening of Wes Anderson’s Asteroid City, a visually dazzling, delightfully offbeat journey to a fictional desert town in 1955, where artists, scientists, teenagers, and strangers from across the country collide under extraordinary circumstances.
Following the screening, hear from set decorator and MassArt alumna Kris Moran, BFA ’89 Painting, about her process for creating the film’s meticulous design and distinctive color palette.
Faces of Us: 8th MassArt Biennial Alumni Exhibition explores identity as an evolving journey shaped by personal growth, cultural influences, and community connections.
The exhibition will be on view October 22 –November 14, Monday – Friday 10am-5pm, in the Doran Gallery at the Design and Media Center.
Please join us for the Opening Reception Thursday, October 22, from 6–8pm. Alumni artwork will be available for purchase during the event with sales proceeds benefiting MassArt’s Compass Program as it celebrates its 25th anniversary year.
Join MassArt for a special screening of Women Laughing, a documentary celebrating the women cartoonists who have helped shape The New Yorker—their humor, creative process, history, and influence.
Following the film, filmmaker and longtime New Yorker cartoonist Liza Donnelly and cartoonist Amy Hwang will join MassArt Illustration Chair Lisa Kennedy for a conversation moderated by MassArt President Mary Grant.

Join us for a special Creative Writing Reading Series event featuring novelist and horror writer Paul Tremblay.
Tremblay — a New York Times bestselling author and winner of the Bram Stoker, British Fantasy, Sheridan Le Fanu, and Massachusetts Book awards — will read from his new book, Dead But Dreaming of Electric Sleep, and discuss his celebrated novels including A Head Full of Ghosts and The Cabin at the End of the World (adapted into the film Knock at the Cabin).
