This was my calling:’ Braintree Community Arts director Heidi Hurley is a teacher at heart

A smiling older woman with gray hair, presumably Heidi Hurley, sits in a bright classroom, wearing a pink sweater and gray scarf. The art supplies and colorful drawings reflect her teacher at heart nature at Braintree Community Arts. White tables and black chairs fill the room.

“Hurley didn’t always plan on being an art teacher, she said. After high school, she joined the Marine Corps. She was active in the reserves for over nine years. She attended the Massachusetts College of Art and Design for graphic design, dabbled in teaching, was a graphic illustrator for the Marine Corps in North Carolina and had a job in advertising.”
