Inside his Cambridge workshop, Adam Simha creates some of the culinary world’s most desired tools of the trade. The knifemaker’s passion for his craft is as sharp as the blades he creates.

“A great knife can change your life,” he said. That’s certainly the case for Simha.

After taking a blade-making class at Massachusetts College of Art and Design in the late 1990s, this former high-end furniture maker was inspired by the possibilities of what can be created from a piece of steel using heat, a hammer and grinding.

By the mid-2000s, MKS Design was born and MKS Knife soon followed. “I say the knife is the foundation of your kitchen. Whether your kitchen is serving 100 seats at a restaurant or four people in the family,” Simha said. Thousands of his custom-made, one-of-a-kind culinary knives are being used by some of the top chefs all over the world.
