MassArt Alumni Haystack Retreat
Enjoy four unforgettable days of art-making and reconnecting with fellow alumni at a stunning coastal location on Deer Isle, Maine.
Please join us for the 21st year of the MassArt Alumni Haystack Retreat, taking place September 29 – October 3, 2026. We’ll share experiences, skills, and memories, letting our creativity flourish in the company of MassArt faculty, alumni, and friends.
Scholarships
APPLICATIONS For the 2026 Haystack Scholarship are now closed.
The MassArt Alumni Association offers 7 need-based scholarships (valued at $275 each) to alumni to attend this year’s trip, thereby reducing the cost to either $475 to stay in a cabin near the central washroom or $525 to stay in a cabin with a bath. All MassArt alumni with financial need are encouraged to apply, especially past applicants who were not previously awarded a scholarship. Please note that past scholarship recipients are unfortunately ineligible for a 2026 scholarship.

Preview 2026 Workshops
Alumni Priority Registration (MassArt Alumni ONLY): Monday, June 22 at 12:00 pm – June 25, 11:59 pm.
Alumni Priority Registration is available to Alumni only. All non-alums will be refunded (minus the Eventbrite processing & service fees) and instructed to participate in General Registration on June 26 instead.
General Registration (MassArt Alumni and Friends): Friday, June 26 from 12:00 pm – July 31 at 12:00 pm, or until SOLD OUT
If you are unable to secure your spot during General Registration, please be sure to add your name to the Waitlist, under Twin Cabin with Bathroom, and email us with your housing preference. Last year, we were able to place folks from the waitlist, so if you don’t lock in your spot right away, don’t give up! There is still a chance you will get in.
Accommodations
Room and meals are included in the registration fee. Please note that cabins are not heated and may involve climbing several steps depending on their location (both the Double Cabin near Central Washrooms and Dorm options will involve climbing several steps). Pricing for 2026 is as follows:
- Twin Cabin with bath (shared with one other attendee): $800
- Twin Cabin near central washrooms (shared with one other attendee): $750
- Dorm near central washrooms (shared quarters with up to 7 attendees): $650
Please note that the rates listed above do not include Eventbrite Processing Fees.
FAQs
The following cancellation policy pertains to all cancellations for any reason whatsoever, which must be made by email to alumni@massart.edu or phone at (617) 879-7020.
- Full refund for cancellation on or before 07/26/26 (minus Eventbrite processing & service fees)
- 50% refund for cancellations between 07/26/26 and 08/30/26
- No refunds will be given for cancellations received after 08/30/26 (unless we can place someone from the waitlist)
- Alumni Priority Registration on June 22 is available only to Alumni. All non-alumni registrations will be refunded (minus Eventbrite processing & service fees) and asked to participate in Standard Registration on June 26th instead.
MassArt strongly recommends purchasing insurance against cancellation, trip interruption, luggage loss or damage, personal injury, or hospitalization. By accepting to join this retreat without insurance, participants hold MassArt completely blameless of any conditions that will result in cancellation, trip delay, trip interruption, or injury.
Massachusetts College of Art and Design (MassArt) acts only as an agent for the participant with respect to booking their reservations at the Haystack Mountain School of Crafts during the period specified. MassArt and its agents and representatives do not accept responsibility for loss, damage, injury, accident, delay, irregularity, expense, or liability caused by negligence or default of any subcontracting organizations, their employees, their agents, or representatives. Any such losses or expenses shall be borne by the participant. We reserve the right to cancel the tour prior to departure, in which case the full payment will be refunded to the participant without any further obligations on our part. Any sickness, injury, accident, dismemberment, or death of a participant is not the responsibility of MassArt, its agents, and representatives, as participants have been advised of the option of purchasing individual insurance against such happenings. By signing up for this retreat, you acknowledge your full awareness of these terms.
