A century and a half of ideas, excellence, and impact.
MassArt was founded on the belief that art has the power to enhance the well-being of individuals, communities, and economies. And in 2023, MassArt celebrated its 150th anniversary — marking a century and a half of transformational ideas fueled by progressive ideals.
A lot has happened in those 150 years. What began in 1873 as a school for drawing has since evolved into a world-class art and design institution offering diverse fine arts degrees and continuing education programming across visual arts disciplines.
As we move proudly into our next 150 years, we reflect on our rich history and look forward to the limitless possibilities that lie ahead.
MassArt’s legacy is one of bold thinking, educational excellence, and profound impact. Our students, faculty, alumni, and staff are creative powerhouses who for 150 years have made groundbreaking contributions to our economy and our communities.Mary K. Grant, PhD President, Massachusetts College of Art and Design
