Christopher Chippendale is an observational painter based in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He has been a member of MassArt’s Painting faculty for thirty-one years. Locally, he is represented by Soprafina Gallery, Boston.

Chippendale’s paintings are based in observation and reflect his ongoing interest in the nature and problems of perception and its representation. He holds an implicit trust in what his eyes actually see, while accepting as a condition of painting that appearances are fundamentally unstable and relational, and that reality is subject to distortion both from without as well as from within. This paradox interests the artist because it mirrors the complexity of what is seen and experienced in the untidy world of appearances.
