Cleod Glassworks creates eye popping glassware and Peachbox Co. delivers ready-to-ship gifts

Cleod Glassworks is a local small business that uses an ancient art to create beautiful, modern glass products. Professor and Chair of Fine Arts 3D at MassArt, James McLeod, and his wife Libby McLeod have a studio in Essex, a store in Rockport, and a showroom in Charleston, South Carolina. Their vases, stemware, pitchers, and bowls boast an intricate attention to detail – beautiful, vibrant showpieces you’d be reluctant to store behind a cabinet door.

Anjali Srinivasan named recipient of the 35th Rakow Commission

“The Corning Museum of Glass (CMoG) has named Boston-based artist Anjali Srinivasan (Glass / 3D Fine Arts Faculty member) the recipient of the 35th Rakow Commission. The prestigious award supports the creation of a new work in glass by an artist whose work pushes the boundaries of the material and who is not yet represented in CMoG’s permanent collection.”

Onlookers ‘blown away’ by Marion glass blowing demonstration

MassArt glass alum Kim Savoie was recently interviewed by The Sippican Weekly for her accomplishments in glassblowing and design. During a demonstration of glass-blowing techniques held outside of the Elizabeth Taber Library — and well away from any flammable structures — on Saturday, Oct. 22, Savoie showed onlookers the art and science behind glass working. Savoie, who studied glass and photography at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design, has made glass working her full-time job.

She also spent three years working and teaching at the Corning Museum of Glass, and helped Pairpoint Glass Company open a glassblowing school.

New Bedford artist hired to help in downtown Attleboro’s development

“Tracy Barbosa is one of 13 artists to be employed by MassDevelopment as Transformative Development Initiative Fellows who will work for three years in TDI districts.

“Barbosa is a multi-media artist who helped organize the “Love the Ave” initiative in New Bedford’s North End. She has a bachelor’s degree from Massachusetts College of Art and Design and has worked in private and public museums all over the world. Barbosa worked at John Lewis Glass assisting with such memorials as the Oklahoma City National Memorial and Museum and One World Trade in New York.”

“At least three glass artists new to showing their work in Michigan will be represented as two simultaneous exhibits are presented through May 18 by the Janice Charach Gallery at the Jewish Community Center in West Bloomfield.

“Adam Goldberg, of Ohio, will display a contemporary sculpture in the 4th Bi-Annual Michigan Regional Glass Exhibition, which spotlights some 50 Michigan and Ohio artists, including Albert Young, founder and owner of Michigan Hot Glass Workshop, and son Nolan Young as well as Andy Koupal, Herb Babcock and Lou Krueger. 

“A complementary exhibit, SIP, in the upper gallery, which spotlights original approaches to functional and decorative glassware, has invited artists from more distant states to debut their projects. They include Alexander Rosenberg, of Pennsylvania, who often uses glass as a tool to observe the natural world, and Josh Bernbaum (MassArt Alumnus, BFA, Glass), of Vermont, who experiments with color.”
