FAQs

This year’s MassArt Alumni Biennial Exhibition, Faces of Us, explores identity as an evolving journey shaped by personal growth, cultural influences, and community connections. It reflects on where we come from, where we are, and where we hope to go, examining how fear and hope influence our visions for the future. It recognizes the multi-potential nature of individuals, honoring the many roles, interests, and communities we inhabit, and tells a story of how we can build a more thoughtful and compassionate world.

MassArt alumni from all disciplines and programs are eligible to submit work for consideration in the 2026 Alumni Exhibition as long as the work submitted follows the criteria set forth in the Call for Art.

MassArt defines an alumnus/a as any person who graduated from MassArt’s undergraduate and graduate programs, but also those students who completed a minimum of two semesters or 18 credits and left the college in good standing. MassArt also recognizes those who earned a certificate from any of our certificate programs.

Due to size constraints in the Doran Gallery, it will be difficult for us to accommodate large scale pieces that exceed 48” in width. We will be able to accept 3-D works to mount on pedestals.

Yes. Except for 3D pieces and works on canvas, all accepted works must be framed and ready for hanging in time for artwork drop-off.

We are leaving the composition of the exhibition in the hands of the jury. They will determine which artists will participate and the number of works by each artist that will be included. The usable exhibition space of the Doran Gallery will be taken into consideration when selecting works for exhibition.

Participating artists may choose to offer their work for sale, with a portion of the proceeds benefiting MassArt’s JET Senior Fund. Artists may donate either 50% or 100% of the funds raised. Participation in the sale is entirely optional and will not affect your eligibility for the exhibition.

The JET Senior Fund supports students during their senior year to assist them with the successful completion of their degree project and uplifts their essential voices in our society.

All artists participating in the fundraising sale are required to provide a fair estimated retail value for their artwork, including the cost of framing. The MassArt staff cannot value or appraise artwork. When determining the value of your work, take your past retail history (if applicable), your cost of framing and materials, and your perceived value into consideration to estimate a fair retail value of your work.

You will be responsible for delivery of the piece(s) and shipping costs (delivery and return) and any related insurance. Works must be received between October 10 – 17, 2026.

No.

If your work is accepted, you will be required to complete the Loan Agreement form for the Doran Gallery (a link will also be in the submission form) at artwork drop-off, which details information about artwork, insurance, and images.
