For Exchange Students
Students from our exchange partners can spend a semester learning alongside artists and designers on our Boston campus
Exchange students are an important part of the MassArt community and we welcome applications from all of our exchange partners.
Application Deadlines:
- Fall semester (September-December): April 1st
- Spring Semester (January-May): October 1st
MassArt accepts exchange students from the partner institutions below. Prospective exchange students should consult with the exchange coordinator at their home institution prior to applying to the exchange program at MassArt. Please contact us with any questions.

- India: Srishti Manipal Institute of Art, Design and Technology

- Netherlands: ArtEZ Institute of the Arts
- Netherlands: Willem de Kooning Academie
- South Korea: Korea National University of Arts
- Spain: University of Barcelona
- Scotland, U.K.: Edinburgh College of Art or Glasgow School of Art
- England, U.K.: University for the Creative Arts

- Accepted exchange students are typically placed into the sophomore or junior level of the department to which they are accepted.
- Students take between 12-15 credits each semester:
- 6 credits are usually devoted to majors courses:
- 6-9 credits are made up of electives which can include studio courses, liberal arts courses and art history courses.
- Not all courses are open to exchange students and we can not guarantee placement in any specific class.
Please check with the Exchange Coordinator at your home institution before applying. You will not be able to start an application without their approval.
Application components include:
- Academic and biographical information
- A portfolio
- A statement of purpose
- A copy of an official transcript.
Please note, all exchange students are required to purchase MassArt health insurance that costs between $1,500-$2,500 per semester. Exchange students will not be able to begin classes without adequate health insurance. Please factor this cost into your plans.
MassArt is a member of the Association of Independent Colleges of Art and Design (AICAD).
The AICAD Exchange Program is available to undergraduate students wishing to participate in semester-long exchanges throughout North America. Accepted students pay their home tuition and fees and study at a fellow AICAD institution for one semester. Most forms of financial aid apply, but it is important to check with your financial aid office for more information.
