  • Exchange students are typically placed into the sophomore or junior level courses by the host department to which they are accepted.
  • Students typically take between 12-15 credits each semester:
    • Six credits are usually devoted to major courses:
    • Six or more credits are normally made up of: studio elective courses, liberal arts and art history courses.

Please note: Not all courses are open to exchange students and we cannot guarantee placement in any specific class.

Please check with the Exchange Coordinator at your home institution before applying. You must be nominated by your home institution, and your nomination must be accepted before you are able to start an application. Applications without institutional approval will not be processed.

Application components include:

The application cycle is about 4 weeks from the submission deadline in order to receive an exchange application decision. Once MassArt accepts exchange students, we will request you to complete some forms so immigration documents can be issues for you. You will need these immigration documents so you can apply for your J-1 visa.

Please note that visa process timeline vary by US embassy so it is important that you check the visa processing time at the embassy you will be applying at.

MassArt is a participating institution with the AICAD Exchange Program.
