sparc! the ArtMobile
Engage with our innovative, community-centered art and design programs – open to all.
sparc! the ArtMobile is both a retrofitted van fully equipped with art supplies, and a dynamic team of MassArt staff and students that travel Boston’s neighborhoods. Our intergenerational art and design programs, free of charge, stimulate cross-cultural conversations and build community.
Participating with sparc! brought me a deeper understanding about the role that art plays in uniting families, neighborhoods, and even institutions. I most enjoyed putting on the Paint Nights and other community events because all of us on the sparc! team were engaged at every level from brainstorming, site visits, planning art activities and finally putting on the final event and watching the vision we had not only come to life but also spark inspiration and joy in the workshop's participants.Beatriz Whitehill '23 MFA Painting
About
Traveling as an all purpose mobile base, sparc! the ArtMobile ignites art and design in the neighborhood. Our sparc! team gets off-campus to collaborate with artists, cultural and municipal organizations, and schools to utilize shared resources and share the joy of creativity.
From Paint Nights to annual community events such as Juneteenth Emancipation observances, sparc! leads with love as a catalyst for dynamic learning and teaching, and welcomes people of all ages and stages.
Work with sparc!
sparc! the ArtMobile employs MassArt students who are passionate about community arts engagement and getting to know the surrounding neighborhoods. Each week the team meets to imagine, plan, prep, and host sparc! programs and events on- and off-campus.
sparc! Team members of all disciplines are employed through the CACP PartnershipWORKS program. If you are interested in applying to be a part of the sparc! team, search MassArt’s Employment Opportunities site for “CACP: sparc! Team Member.” Openings are posted and filled at the beginning of each academic year in August or September.

Fern Cunningham-Terry Memorial Fund
Established in 2020 by Fern’s family, this fund honors the artistic legacy of artist and educator Fern Cunningham-Terry. Fern created awe-inspiring monumental works of art that grace Boston’s landscape, and through her teachings shaped young minds utilizing art and design as catalysts. Her favorite quote from poet, Khalil Gibran was, “Work is love made visible.” Her bronze sculptures sited in Boston such as “Family Circle,” “The Value of a Life,” and “Step on Board,” show her love to us daily.
We invite you to help us grow this special fund that will support sparc! the ArtMobile’s youth programming in perpetuity. Every gift — large and small will benefit youth art programs and scholarships throughout Boston’s neighborhoods!
