Journals/Magazines

We subscribe to approximately 200 serials in print, and our databases provide full-text articles from another 12,000 journals, magazines, and newspapers. Additionally we have back issues runs of hundreds of other print journals. Our subscriptions and holdings are focused on art, design, and education, but also support undergraduate study in the liberal arts.

  • Search for print journals by title in our library catalog.
  • To determine if we have online access to a journal, check our A-to-Z list.
  • To search for articles in our print and online journals, search for your topic in our databases.

Books

Students, faculty, and staff can borrow from the Godine's circulating collection of more than 90,000 volumes. The collection is focused on art and design, but it's also strong in education, and provides solid resources to support the liberal arts portion of the MassArt curriculum. In the same online catalog where you search for items in the Godine collection, you will also find nearly a million additional items in the other 8 libraries in Fenway Libraries Online (FLO). MassArt ID holders can borrow in person at these libraries (many are within a 10-minute walk) or request that the books be delivered to the Godine within 2 to 3 days.

DVDs, Videos, and Films

The Godine Library has about 3,000 DVDs and videotapes, and 800 16-mm films. These collections reflect the college's curriculum but also include many feature films as well. You can search these collections in the library catalog by title, director, or subject. Use the "advanced search" function and select "MassArt Media Collection."

ADDERLEY LECTURES

The suicide of Tyrone Maurice Adderley, a talented and popular painting student, provided a catalyst. In his memory, faculty organized a lecture series to bring artists from underrepresented groups to give an honorary lecture to share their work and wisdom.

In 1995 Lorraine O’Grady gave the inaugural Adderley Lecture. Over the past two decades members of the MassArt community have been privileged to meet and learn from artists, writers, scholars, and activists each year.

These lectures have been consistently excellent but, more importantly, they have transformed MassArt and the profound in influences of speakers past still reverberate in the halls and curricula of the school.

These lectures are now available as streaming videos to members of the MassArt community (use your netID and password to gain access).
