MassArt and Central Maine Community College Announce New Articulation Agreement for Architecture Program

Expanding pathways in design education through new collaboration
BOSTON, MA – Massachusetts College of Art and Design (MassArt) and Central Maine Community College (CMCC) are pleased to announce a new articulation agreement that provides a clear, accessible pathway for CMCC Architectural Studies students to transfer seamlessly into MassArt’s Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) Architecture Program. This partnership offers students an affordable, streamlined route from an associate degree into the nation’s only public art and design college, positioning them for further professional study or immediate career advancement in the built environment.
“MassArt is deeply committed to expanding access to world-class art and design education,” said MassArt President Mary K. Grant. “This partnership with Central Maine Community College creates transformative pathways for architectural students while also strengthening the future creative workforce across New England.”
Under the agreement, eligible CMCC students can receive up to 60 transfer credits and enter as a sophomore or junior.
“This partnership represents more than an academic pathway; it is a shared investment in a regional community of architectural education,” said Patricia Seitz, MassArt Professor and Chair, Architecture. “Together, CMCC and MassArt are building bridges across states, expanding opportunities for students, and preparing the next generation of architects through collaboration, creativity, and a shared commitment to public purpose.”
“This is a wonderful opportunity to leverage the strengths of both Central Maine Community College and MassArt’s architecture programs to create new paths for students interested in pursuing a career in Architecture,” said Paul Hajian, MassArt Graduate Program Director, Architecture. “Our joint efforts to reach a broader group of creative design students is essential to build the next generation of responsible architects”.
“Our goal is to create meaningful opportunities for students long after they graduate from CMCC,” said Andrew Morong, Dean of Enrollment Management at Central Maine Community College. “This agreement gives our Architectural Studies students a clear and affordable pathway to continue their education at one of the nation’s leading public art and design colleges. It also reflects the strength of our faculty and curriculum, which have positioned CMCC as a trusted transfer partner. We’re proud to collaborate with MassArt to expand opportunities for students interested in architecture and design.”
Completing MassArt’s BFA prepares students for careers in architectural design, historic preservation, urban planning, and environmental design, while also building a direct pathway to MassArt’s NAAB-accredited Master of Architecture (M.Arch) degree. Above all, the partnership reflects both institutions’ shared public mission: making high-caliber design education accessible to students across New England and beyond.
