Opinion: I’ve Photographed Protests Around the World. This Still Surprises Me.

MassArt Professor of Photography Matthew Connors is featured in The New York Times , sharing photographs that reflect an era shaped by confrontations with authoritarian power.

His new book, The Axe Will Survive the Master, brings this work into focus, drawing on more than a decade of projects across Ukraine, Hong Kong, Egypt, North Korea, and the United States. Completing a trilogy that began with General Assembly and Fire in Cairo—the latter recognized with an ICP Infinity Award—the publication underscores the vital role of artists in examining power, resistance, and democratic ideals in a rapidly changing world.
