Billie Mandle Chair, Photography Associate Professor, Photography

S. Billie Mandle is from Northern California. Engaging themes of place, time, and the interplay between the known and unknown, her photographs examine the subtle forces that define our surroundings.

Her projects have been supported by a NYFA Fellowship, a Massachusetts Cultural Council Fellowship, and a grant from the Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation and her work has been featured in publications such as Aperture, Cabinet, and Wired. In 2020 her monograph, Reconciliation, was published by Kehrer Verlag, and an artist book, Stellar Skytron, was published by Dust Collective. Her work is held in several public collections including the Museum of Fine Arts Boston, the Addison Gallery of American Art, the Museum of Fine Arts Houston, the Getty Institute Library, and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art Library.

She received a BA in biology from Williams College and an MFA from Massachusetts College of Art and Design. Prior to joining the faculty at MassArt, she taught at Hampshire College.
