MassArt Auction

Times are changing, and so are we. As we all continue to adapt, our team is making a concerted effort this year to reach new artists whose voices are an important reminder of the turbulent and challenging times within which we are living. The 2021 MassArt Auction Committee had a busy fall selecting the 300+ artworks featured in this year’s Auction, and our team has been exploring creative and innovative ways to bring the MassArt Auction to you!

Of course, the health and safety of our community members, on and off-campus, are important to us. Building upon the success of last year’s all virtual event in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Massachusetts College of Art and Design is pleased to announce our updated plans for the 2021 MassArt Auction. Our Live Auction, including Raise Your Paddle, will take place via live stream on our virtual auction platform, Bidsquare, the evening of Saturday, April 10, 2021, respecting the safety protocols necessary to protect our community. The Silent Auction will also be posted to Bidsquare and open for a two week period of bidding, beginning March 27, 2021.*

Our students have demonstrated incredible perseverance and dedication to pursuing their education, adapting to the ever-growing challenges of this unprecedented year. The Auction team is excited to rise to the occasion again this year and continue to provide top quality art to our community and the support that our community of artists needs.

The proceeds of this spectacular event provide vital scholarship aid and academic program support for our deserving students. MassArt is the nation’s only independent public college of art and design and is dedicated to providing an exceptional and affordable education for the next generation of artists and designers.

While the logistics of this event may have changed due to world events, we are expecting auction artists to express the complex emotions each of us is experiencing. You won’t find this depth and breadth of artwork selection anywhere else!

We hope you will join us as we celebrate the 32nd year of the MassArt Auction and be a part of another year of this highly anticipated Boston tradition.

While we are disappointed not to be able to gather in-person to look at the fabulous art in advance of the Auction, we have come up with a new offering this year. We are planning to host a series of virtual preview parties in the days leading up to the Auction. These virtual parties will be open to anyone who might be interested in learning more about the artwork being featured at this year's Auction and will allow guests to choose from a list of break out rooms/sessions featuring a variety of topics. After much discussion, our Committee has identified four categories of one-hour break-out sessions that we hope to offer our guests at these events:

  • Artwork House Tours - art advisor tours of client homes that have purchased art from the Auction and how they have chosen to display it

  • Artmaking - artist studio visits, artmaking demonstrations

  • Interior Design/Art Selection - how to curate and choose art for your home/office

  • Artist features by Gallery Partners - sessions focused on different types of artists whose work will be available for purchase

As details are confirmed, they will be posted to this page, so please check back for updates!
