Course Descriptions

Fashion Intensive (Grades 7-12)
This robust introduction to fashion design gives students an understanding of how a piece of clothing is created from concept to drawing to construction. Students bring ideas from the drawing board to completion. A final fashion show gives the MassArt community the opportunity to see the results. Please note that although it is not mandatory, fashion students are asked to provide themselves with a model throughout Xtreme!Week. This makes it possible for the student to show two garments during the final fashion show. A Model Release form, to be filled out by the parent/guardian of the model, will be sent with the orientation letter. Students will not need a model for the first day of class.

Drawing and Portfolio Development (Grades 9-12)
This course focuses on drawing — the heart of a serious portfolio. Students develop drawing skills using a wide variety of media by learning how to draw from observation, memory, and imagination. Class time is also spent looking at how other artists found ways to express their creative ideas. For sophomores, juniors, and seniors this class will be an opportunity to develop work for your portfolio.

Landscape Drawing (Grades 9-12)
The natural world has been a vital source for artists throughout history. In this class students will work outside, directly from nature. We'll begin with viewing historical and contemporary landscape paintings and a discussion of the issues unique to working outdoors. Drawing with graphite pencils and oil sticks, students will develop skills to communicate what they see. In inclement weather, we will work in the studio, developing ideas begun outside.
