Untitled Portraits of the Queer Experience | 2018, Installation

Artist Statement

This body of work is an installation exploring the ideas of breaking "the frame" through hanging drapery and wood frame sculptures, surrounded by tableaus of famous paintings whose subjects were replaced with queer people.

The sculptures are a representation of physical abstracts of emotion experienced by queer people. They break "the frame" literally by using picture frames in an unexpected way in reference to the idea of portraiture.

The photos explore breaking "the frame" of famous paintings by asking the question, "what if these bodies were queer people in the modern age?" They explore queer bodies' famous subjects in order capture a modern scenario found in the LGBTQ+ community, and juxtapose the politics/history of these paintings.
