MassArt Announces the Inauguration of 12th President Dr. David P. Nelson and Inaugural Events October 5-20, 2017
Boston, MA – September 27, 2017 - Massachusetts College of Art and Design announces the inauguration of the College’s 12th President, Dr. David P. Nelson. The ceremony will take place in the Design and Media Center at MassArt on Friday, October 20 at 2pm. The College has scheduled a series of community events in lead up to the inauguration to celebrate the legacy and future of MassArt.

Oct 5, 2017 - Apr 30, 2018 - Upstarts & Innovators: MassArt Alumni Profiles
This exhibition installed on the Tower building facade showcases some of MassArt’s most influential alumni: Brian Collins ‘82, Arne Glimcher ‘60, Jill Martinelli ’06 and Sabine Le Guyader ’05 (founders of Lady Grey Jewelry), Rashid Rana M‘94, Erin Robertson ‘16, Kelly Wearstler ‘94, and William Wegman ’65.
Oct 5, 6pm - MassArt's Presidents: The Legacy
Mary Ann Stankiewicz, Professor of Art Education at Penn State University, discusses her book Developing Visual Arts Education in the United States: Massachusetts Normal School and the Normalization of Creativity about MassArt’s early history, with past MassArt presidents William O’Neill, Kay Sloan and current president David P. Nelson. Free and open to the public.
Oct 9 - Opening Our Doors
MassArt joins this annual Fenway Alliance event, which invites the public to explore the neighborhood’s cultural offerings. Free and open to the public.
Oct 12, 6pm - Then, Now, Tomorrow: Change and Racial Equity on Campus and Beyond
For the College’s signature Adderley Lecture Series, MassArt welcomes guest speakers Kylie Webster-Cazeau and Meggie Noel, "Boston Globe 2016 Bostonians of the Year" for a cross-generational discussion about activism. Free and open to the public.
Oct 14, 11am-4pm - Family Day in the Bakalar & Paine Galleries
Visitors of all ages are invited to drop in for interactive activities and art making, designed and guided by MassArt students, faculty and Gallery staff. Free and open to the public.
Oct 17, 4-7pm - Open House/Open Galleries
A campus-wide event designed to showcase the artistic excellence of MassArt. The public is invited to campus to view Gallery exhibitions, open studios, activities through the Center for Art and Community Partnerships (CACP), and alumni displays. Free and open to the public.
Oct 20 - Inauguration Ceremony
The culmination of the MassArt Inaugural Celebration, the inauguration of the 12th Presidency and the investiture of Dr. David P. Nelson as the 12th President of Massachusetts College of Art and Design. This event is not open to the public.
