MassArt announces 29th annual auction to support student scholarships and academic programs

With Nearly 1200 Submissions, Live and Silent Auction Will Feature More Than 300 Contemporary Works of Art by Emerging to Established Artists

WHO/WHAT:
Massachusetts College of Art and Design (MassArt) announces the 29th Annual MassArt Auction, which will take place on Saturday, April 7, 2018 in the Bakalar & Paine Galleries at MassArt. Selected from nearly 1200 submissions, the live and silent auctions will feature more than 300 works of art in a range of media by emerging to established artists. The 2018 live auction will include 34 pieces by internationally renowned artists, including Robert Freeman, Takashi Murakami, Alison Saar, Claes Oldenburg and new auction artist Sangbin Im; and local artists such as MassArt faculty members Rania Matar and Fred Liang, and MassArt alumni TRIIIBE  BFA ‘01 and Clint Baclawski MFA ‘08 who is offering this year’s sole commission.
 

This year’s silent auction of 288 lots features noteworthy artists, including Arlene Shechet, Robert Rauschenberg, LaVaughan Jenkins BFA ‘05, MassArt faculty member James Mason BFA ‘81, Christian Restrepo BFA ‘15, and Elisa Hamilton BFA ‘07.

The MassArt Auction annually draws a crowd of over 700 collectors and art enthusiasts seeking to view and purchase exceptional contemporary art while supporting the College. All proceeds provide vital scholarship aid and academic program support for MassArt students. Last year's auction was the highest grossing MassArt Auction in history, with over $1.3 million raised.
