Mask Policy

Updated Mask Policy

  • Masks will remain a requirement in all classrooms and studios

  • Masks will also be required in office spaces where signage indicates this requirement

  • Masks will no longer be required — but will be strongly encouraged – in common areas, including the Kennedy cafeteria, Library, and hallways and elevators

  • All community members should carry a mask with them at all times

  • As a reminder, if you have been exposed to COVID-19 or are leaving isolation, it is expected that you wear a tight-fitted mask at all times for at least 10 days from positive result or exposure

  • Additionally, if you have an approved exemption, per CDC guidelines you must still wear a tight-fitted mask indoors at all times.

This policy change will take effect starting on Monday, January 30, 2023.

As we shift our policy, please remember that the continued practice of hand washing and physical distancing can provide additional layers of protection for yourself and others. In addition, when you are sick, please do not come to campus.

Our values as a community include being a just, compassionate, and equitable learning environment where we honor courage, mutual respect, and self-expression – so when it comes to the personal preference of mask wearing, we thank you in advance for keeping these values in mind as we move ahead.

  • There is a universal agreement that in our community individuals should not be made to feel uncomfortable, unwelcome, or marginalized because of their choice to wear or not wear a mask in any mask-optional setting.

  • While many members of our community are experiencing mask fatigue, many others remain concerned about getting COVID and/or spreading it to others.

  • Also, many members of our community may be immunocompromised, or have family members and friends who may also be immunocompromised. If someone would like you to wear a mask in their space, please respect their personal boundaries and wear one.

Important note - If public health conditions change, MassArt is prepared to pivot to more extensive protections such as returning to a fully masked campus, as warranted by such changes.
