Visiting Lecturer and Public Art Expert Max Grinnell shares the challenge of constructing a Boston Marathon Memorial, noting "How can you create a space for grieving where different groups find the meaning and solace they’re looking for? It’s a really tough challenge."
Ryan's film "Broken" is the final project he did for the summative elective "Imagining Others: from Strangers to Cyborgs" taught by Marika Preziuso in Spring 2017.
In "Broken", Ryan reflected on his own and his family's bilingual and bicultural background, using a speculative, science fiction lens. His inspiration for this work was the poetry collection "Cannibal" by Safiya Sinclair, which was read in class.
This exhibition is a tribute to artist Barkley L. Hendricks’ legacy and a celebration of new generations of figurative artists of color.
